August 1, 2011 - A List
Welcome to the eighth month of 2011.
School starts in 22 days.
Boy Pop will be in 2nd Grade (OMG!).
We purchased one back to school item up to this point (shoes). They are very cool.
Boy Pop will be spending the next three weeks at a day camp.
An OUTDOOR day camp.
The high temperature today is supposed to hit 107.
It's really hot.
Boy Pop informed me this morning, in the car ride to the camp drop off, that he doesn't like being an only child and that he's perfectly okay with a screaming infant in the house and the fact that said screaming infant wouldn't be able to play with him for several years.
About the said screaming, "It'll just be a second alarm for me."
And he's okay with poopy diapers, too, apparently, as long as he doesn't have to change them.
None of the above statements have any deeper or hidden meaning about our current reality. Nor are any changes to our current reality in the works.
Just got a call from my car service department. Said vehicle was taken in for a loose door handle. And turns out I also have a "collapsed left side engine mount." Thank heavens for Power Train warranties! And loose door handles (not covered by Power Train and therefore will cost $210) without which, the "collapsed left side engine mount" would not have been discovered when I asked them to please run a transmission diagnostic while my car was there getting the handle fixed.
I need to figure out what to make for dinner this week. And then make a grocery list. And then go to the grocery store.
Good times!
August makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy because we are this much closer to cooler weather. Sad because it is the end of summer and almost Boy Pop's birthday.
He will be eight.
I need an internet hug. He should still be four.

Random Thought
I work in a building with several floors and three wings. On my particular floor, in my particular wing, there is one ladies room. There are a lot of women who work in the same part of the building as I work.
So why is it ALWAYS a shock when someone is coming out of the bathroom at the same time I am going in? And then, why do we both ALWAYS feel the need to apologize to each other for it?

I Still Bleed Orange (And Other Thoughts)
Well, we lost. Our little brothers up in Lubbock had a better night. Watching that game sucked. And that's all I have to say about that. Well, that and the fact that you won't see a Longhorn tearing down a goalpost after a big win... Ahem...
Moving on...
For the past two years (2006 and 2007), I've participated in NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month). I posted each and every day in November. http://www.nablopomo.ning.com/ I signed up to do it again this year. Except that today is November 3rd and I didn't post on Saturday or Sunday, so I'm already out.
I guess I can take a year off. Or I can pick my own month to post every day. It doesn't really matter all that much in the grand scheme of life.
I haven't downloaded pictures in about two weeks. With all of the things that have been going on lately (t-ball, football, Halloween, etc.), I have a huge backlog of pictures to sort and post.
Oh, and if you are wondering why I did not have time or energy to log in over the weekend and post, let me run it down for you:
Friday October 31
Attend costume parade at Boy Pop's school at 10AM.
Receive phone call at 11:30AM from director about trouble that Boy Pop got into.
Pick up Boy Pop at 2PM to come to family day at work.
Leave work at 4PM and start a frantic hunt for face paint.
Arrive home at 4:45 with face paint (after four stops).
Race over to Halloween party at 5:30.
Arrive home at midnight.
Saturday November 1
Wake up at 6:40AM.
Doze back off.
Wake up for good at 7AM.
Start helping Dr Pop put stuff out for neighborhood garage sale.
First customer arrives at 7:21.
Sell our big ticket items.
Sell some other crap.
Dr Pop gets very sick.
Hold down the fort for another 30 minutes or so then pack it all in at 10AM to go watch ESPN.
Medicate Dr Pop.
Get Boy Pop ready for T-Ball.
T-Ball game at 12.
Come home and eat lunch and rest for a bit.
Clean up after garage sale and gather stuff to take to Goodwill.
Make a Goodwill run and then go to Wal-Mart with Boy Pop.
Eat a Fun-Size box of Milk Duds.
Lose a filling in a Milk Dud.
Finish cleaning up house and start prepping for game watching party at our house.
Guests arrive at 7PM.
Game over and they leave, all despondent in defeat.
Watch Journey to the Center of the Earth with Boy and Dr Pop.
Watch the time change with Dr Pop.
Sunday November 2
Wake up refreshed and ready to take on the world (first time that's happened in a while!) at 9:30 AM (really, it was 10:30... go time change!). I was the only one awake.
Receive text from friend regarding church.
Get in the shower.
Get out of the shower and see that Boy Pop and Dr Pop are now up
Make decision to skip church and shop for ski clothes instead (we are heathens up in here, y'all).
Get Boy Pop a bad ass outfit.
Come home, eat eggs that Dr Pop has lovingly prepared for us all.
Watch some football, then leave at 2 to attend the Texas Book Festival at the state capitol.
http://www.texasbookfestival.org/
Spend 3 hours away and come home $20 lighter (didn't buy books, bought pop corn and sno cones instead).
Come home and watch the remainder of the Dallas Cowboy debacle.
Clean up dog poop in the backyard.
Clean out the litter box.
Make a small effort to clean the kitchen.
Run the vacuum cleaner. Boy Pop tells his father, "Mommy is our new maid!"
Do laundry.
Cook dinner.
Watch Sunday Night Football.
I'm fucking exhausted! But won't my kid be the cutest at ski school?

Just Two More Vacation Photos
I couldn't resist these!
Right around the corner from our room, sat the swimming pool and pool bars. Unlike the two swim-up bars, you had to walk to this one. That was alright, though, as it had two-person swings!

Dr Pop and I visited often. In these two photos, we are chilling out on our last day with Bloody Marys and Vodka tonics.
Mwah!
*********************************
I just had to post the below photo, taken with my camera phone a little while ago.
It's been pretty damn windy here all week. Today, there was also rain combined with gale-force winds. Obviously, someone's oversized, heavy-duty golf umbrella had finally had enough.
Not surprisingly, the umbrella's owner appeared to have had enough with it as well and haphazardly stuffed it into the trash can right outside my building entrance.
I thought it was funny.

In Which I Use Parenthesis... A lot...
I interrupt this work day to... Take a break from working!
I have really been holding my shit together at work this week, but it has not been an easy road. I've been backing up a person who's been in Europe all week and I cannot wait for him to get back. He'll be back on Monday. Hooray! On top of him being out, two of my overlay specialists have been out (one all week, too and one just today and tomorrow). It's been crazy-busy at work for just those reasons.
Of course, that isn't all that has been going on up in here. A complete reorganization of my business division occurred Friday and Monday, resulting in lots of upheaval and a few faces gone.
Yesterday, was "clean sweep" day (fitting, eh?) and there was a clean row contest. I took charge and ended up winning the "Clean Leader" award, so yay me! If only I could channel the cleaning into my own home. But a 4x2 space is much simpler to organize than 3000 square feet! So oh well!
On the home front, yesterday a playscape arrived. Boy Pop played on it for HOURS. He woke up in the middle of the night (twice!) with leg cramps. Since the summer heat is now officially upon us (I think the high on Sunday is projected to be 99), we need to re-think hydration. Or maybe it's growing pains. I don't know. All I know is this... I thought the days of being woken up multiple times by a crying child in the middle of the night were long behind me. I was oh, so wrong.
Finally, Dr Pop was at it again on Tuesday... He couldn't help himself! The whole family now has Razor scooters! Except the adults' versions are electric. I can fit Boy Pop in front with me and we can zip down the sidewalk at alarming rates of speed. If you live in my neighborhood, be afraid. Be VERY afraid.
And tonight I really do need to buckle down and deep clean my house. Family is coming in for Mother's Day weekend and it's a complete and total wreck! Ugh.

Let Me Tell You Something
I do have some random shit to say today...
My birthday is in 9 days and my anniversary is in 11. I still don't really know what I want.
Diamond earrings!
I mean, I really have everything I need and there isn't that much out there that really appeals to me.
Diamond tennis bracelet!
I'm sure Dr Pop would love some gift ideas, but dang it, I'm all out!
Gift certificate to Neiman Marcus! Trip to the beach! (Oh wait, that's already happening) Something from his heart!
Just so you know, I am not some selfish woman who wants to be lavished with all kinds of material things. I truly believe that it is the thought that counts. Nothing else.
Last night, we finalized the plans for our summer vacation. Back to the beach! So that means back to Turbo Jam and lots of posting on the workout blog. I'm so excited! I'm ready to be laying out by the ocean with a cold, frozen beverage in my hand. And this year, I think my parents and Boy Pop might join us for a few days (maybe half the trip). That will be fun.
I'm probably going to take down the video of Boy Pop playing the Wii. Maybe. I don't know. He had so much fun playing it with all of us, but somehow I feel weird about putting the video out there. I can't help it, though. I know he's not there solely for my entertainment, but my kid thoroughly entertains me. Not just when he's running like a crazy person with a video controller in his hand, but All. The. Time. The way he turns legos into transformers, the way he turns Mr. Potato Heads into a puppet and puts on a puppet show, and the way he sees the world are hilarious to me.
For example...
The other day, he jumped at the cat and startled him into jumping off the table and sliding on a piece of construction paper. The conversation that happened next just kills me:
Me: Did you scare the cat?
BP: Yes.
Me: That wasn't a very nice thing to do.
BP: No, but it was funny!
I love this kid! Don't doubt it for a second.

Type, type, type... Delete, delete, delete
In the past week, I've written long, drawn-out tomes on the following topics:
Bret Michaels
Reality TV
Britney Spears
Voting
Politics
Marriage
Work
Fitness
Junk food
Travel
Vacations
Not one of the above was fit to post and now I'm suffering from writer's cramp (my brain is cramping under the pressure I've put upon myself to write something, ANYTHING! worth reading). So I will just be random. In other words, THIS WILL BE A NORMAL POST!
I spend way too much time focusing on the latest celebrity antics as evidenced by an email my husband sent me this morning to tell me that the fed cut the interest rates... I thought to myself, "Well yeah, but Britney showed up for a custody hearing! So. Much. More. Important."
Dr Pop sent me a quiz yesterday to find out who I match up with politically. Since it was sent to him by my "hated enemy" I will not post that exact link here. Here's essentially the same link, but I found it on a different affiliate website. ;-) http://ktbc.4wmt.com/cmm/
I pretty much know where my vote is going in the Primary election and, given various contingencies, I have a top 4 list of the candidates who will get my vote in November. The fact that I have been able to find so many options is telling. Basically, no one really stands out as outstanding to me this year. Quite a few stand out as terrible choices, but no one rises to the top. What a sad, sad election year.
Oh. You saw that thing I said about having an enemy. I don't. Not really. There are a few people whose company I don't go out and seek, though. And a few people out there who would not see me cry if karma catches up to them. But no enemies per se. I just choose for my personal life to seek out people who hold the same things I hold dear...
You don't see much political ranting on here because I'm mostly, "Don't ask, don't tell." I'd rather not know where you lean because that way we won't be drawn into a heated war of words resulting in the end of a great acquaintance. I like to agree to disagree on most things and you won't really see me rear up until you start extolling the virtues of abortion at will, government mandated socialism, and higher taxes.
I'm still kind of cranky. I don't know what's wrong with me other than a perpetual beat-down at work that is not fun. Well that, eating junk when I know I shouldn't, and sitting on the couch or at the computer when I know I should be shakin' it with Chalene.
I never feel better than when I am working out. Gotta love those endorphins! And working out and eating right helps get those nasty fast-food toxins right out of my system. You'd think I'd "get" it by now. Intellectually, I do get it. It's in practice where I slack off. But we will be planning our summer vacation soon, and the last thing I want is to be starving myself before we go so that I can look just right in my sundresses.
Maybe we can discuss trainwreck reality TV at a later date. I need to go read the Wall Street Journal or something!

19 Days Later and Plenty of Random Thoughts
So. 19 days after Christmas and 13 days into the new year and our Christmas decorations are 98% put away. The only thing left is to disassemble the tree and put it away for next year.
I still have not written my thank you notes for Christmas. I feel like a big ole loser because of it, too.
It seems as though everyone around me at work is sick. I'm just glad I got my cortisone shot right before Christmas. I think that is the only thing saving me from all of the Cedar in the air.
I am going to be making a confession post on my workout blog later today.
January is almost half over already. I can't believe it! I need to get off my ass and, as Niecy Nash says on Clean House, get to gettin'!
This was a pretty busy weekend... On Friday, we drove up to my hometown to surprise my mother for her birthday. She was definitely surprised! We drove home Saturday after lunch. I was wiped out and took a long nap. Sunday was a football, laundry, and Christmas clean-up day. Let's not discuss football, shall we?
Happy belated Birthday to my beautiful mother!
