Memories

My best girlfriend and college roommate and I used to get really silly together. One of our "things" was making up moves to go with some of our favorite songs. Then, when driving around town (or jumping around in our dorm room), we'd act out the dances. I still smile when I hear some of the songs as they became the soundtrack for the first time either of us had ever experienced freedom.

Here are some of my favorites from our personal soundtrack:
Dancing Queen -- ABBA
SOS -- ABBA
YMCA -- The Village People
One Through Four -- Tripping Daisy
Baby Got Back -- Sir Mix-a-lot

And then, of course...

Footloose -- Kenny Loggins

I overslept this morning, waking up about half an hour late. I hadn't gotten the coffee ready yet, so I blearily got it ready, poured the water into the well, and turned the coffee pot on. Unfortunately, I had placed the actual pot on the counter NEXT to the coffee maker and not where it belonged. You know, where it catches the brewed coffee... I caught it in time so that there was minimal damage, but still! Ugh.

Since returning from my vacation, I've been staying up late, waking too early, and have been counting down the days until I get some additional time off. In other words, I've been in a bit of a funk. Then, while flipping through the stations on my way to work, I heard the familiar intro beats and guitar strums... It built up in me slowly at first, but continued to grow and build into a massive crescendo. Then, all of a sudden, I was flailing my arms, kicking my non-driving foot, and singing at the top of my lungs.

I been working so hard
Keep punching my card
Eight hours, for what?
Oh, tell me what I got
I get this feeling
That time's just holding me down
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town
Tonight I gotta cut
(Chorus)
Loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise
Pull me offa my knees
Jack, get back
C'mon before we crack
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose
You're playing so cool
Obeying every rule
Dig way down in your heart
You're yearning, burning for some
Somebody to tell you
That life ain't passing you by
I'm trying to tell you
It will if you don't even try
You can fly if you'd only cut
(Chorus)
Loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Oowhee, Marie
Shake it, shake it for me
Whoa, Milo
C'mon, c'mon let go
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose
FIRST - we got to turn you around
SECOND - You put your feet on the ground
THIRD - Now take a hold of your soul
FOUR - Whooooooooa, I'm turning it
Loose, FOOTLOOSE
(Chorus)

Thanks XM. I needed that this morning!
