Another Fine Parenting Moment

Last night, my friend Janna and I went to a Hope Uncorked event at our local Sak's Fifth Avenue. It was an evening of wine tasting and sales, benefiting Fertile Hope.*

*Please note that if you live in the Austin area, Sak's Fifth Avenue is donating 2% of all sales to the Entertainment Industry Foundation's Women's Cancer Research Fund*

If you know me at all, you know that it is a rare thing for me to go to events like this. It is even a rarer thing still to do this with friends. I'm a social person, but most of my socializing is done in groups and includes my husband. I don't "do" lunch. I don't have "girls' nights out." So I was pretty excited about this and RSVP'd early. I then told Dr. Pop that I was going and found out that he would be out of town. This meant that Boy Pop was to come with us.

All-in-all, the evening was great! Janna and I tasted some fabulous wines, got great goodie bags and t-shirts, browsed some fab clothes and purses, and just had a nice time. All with a 5 year old. Yes, I was that woman with a wine tasting glass in one hand and a little boy's hand in the other. And here's where I totally brag…

My son behaved like a dream! He didn't whine, fuss, or make any commotion. He contented himself with rolling a racecar on the tables and tasting some cheese and looking at the Christmas decorations. I was and am extremely proud of the fact that I can take him places (places that are decidedly not kid-friendly) in a pinch and he knows how to act. He's a great kid.

Our one little "uh-oh" moment came via nature. Halfway through our time there, Boy Pop looks up at me and said, "I need to go potty." So I took him upstairs to the ladies' room. We walked through the doors and he rather loudly announced, "I need to go poo-poo." Right in front of the woman who was putting on lipstick. She couldn't get out of there fast enough! Lucky for us, the large handicapped stall was free, so we went in there and Boy Pop began his business. And then it started happening… He started talking himself through it. And his face got redder and redder and he did something he never does… He started grunting. All the while, I hear the door opening and closing, women coming in and out of the bathroom. I tried to shush my son, but he was so cute and he was having such a hard time of it, that my heart just wasn't in it. So I did what any mother in the late 2000's would do… I texted my husband a running commentary!

Quote of the night: Mommy, I'm not done yet, I still need to toot a little more.

Here's the shirt! Isn't it awesome?

Very cool shirt.

My kids have put me through those fine parenting moments too. lol

Your post reminded me I have a few closets to sort through today.

Hope hubby comes home ASAP !

P.S. What vitamins were you taking to help your hair grow ? And, are they helping ?

Thanks! :)

I need to really get after the closet thing. It is bad.

I've been taking a generic Hair, Skin, & Nails vitamin from Walgreens and "MSM," which is a joint supplement. I don't know if it is the vitamins or the hair products, or the less-harsh chemicals I've been using, but the combination is certainly helping!

The good thing about moving is that it forces you to go through all your stuff - closet included! So, I am enjoying my closet now, but am wondering what I'm going to do with all my maternity clothes now.

Should I keep them, just in case? Or donate them and buy more if/when we decided to have another baby?

BB,

I kept my maternity clothes, all washed and neatly folded, in a large sterlite bin, tucked away in the guest room closet. I gave them all to Goodwill last year (FOUR years after Boy Pop was born). I say keep 'em if you have room for them.
